"Letter from the President"
(April 2024)
Dear Friends,
I hope that this finds you well. Again, I would like to thank all of
you who have been reaching out to me via email, text, message, and
cards; it really brightens my day. I hope to be back at ICC very
soon and cannot wait to see everyone.
April is volunteer appreciation month and we would love to express
our sincere thanks and gratitude to our amazing volunteers. I swear
we have THE best volunteers around. 😊 In addition to monthly
volunteering on a Tuesday or Saturday, we also have volunteers who
coordinate and pack bags for our weekend backpack program, these
amazing individuals are: Mary R (coordinator), Jeff, Barbara, and
Nina.
In addition, we have volunteers who distribute these bags to the 12
elementary schools in Irondequoit. These wonderful volunteers are
Amy and Anne, Karen S, Karen K, Don and Sue, Sharon, Judy, Jeff,
Warren and John V.
As many of you know we have an remarkable garden which is headed by
an amazing volunteer, Anne Rowley and she coordinates the volunteers
for this.
We also have a devoted volunteer, Sue M, who comes in monthly to
help pack 37 food bags for senior citizens that are at a town
independent living apt.
We have dedicated volunteers who pick up and drop off donated items
from the library, the Ridge Culver Fire Dept and Wegmans: Warren,
Barb and Mike, Bill and Linda, and Mike and Anne.
I would also like to acknowledge these amazing volunteers with the
recognition they so deserve! (I hope I do not forget anyone)
Thank you so much to the following individuals who comprise our
current Tuesday crew: Pam, Diane M, Karen K, Karen S, Barbara, Sue,
Sarah, Charlie, Jeff, Elisa, Sue M, Julie, Mary R, Ann K, Gail, Sue
T, Steve, and Nina.
Our current Saturday crew consists of: Anne R, Hugh, Donna,
Margaret, Bethany, Anne G, Karen K, Rachel O, Rachel I, Samana,
Erin, MaryFran and Ken, Emily, Maddie, and Diane H and they are
gratefully appreciated as well.
Our board members, who we could not function without, are totally
volunteers. We are a “working board” which means that everyone
volunteers at least once a month; a few of them volunteer even more
than that. In addition, we meet monthly and have additional
responsibilities, especially at the holiday time. Listed below are
our incredible, dedicated and wonderful Board of Directors:
Lisa Loeser: Chairperson
Maryjo Toepfer: Assistant Chairperson
John Kane: Treasurer
Cherie Evans: Secretary (No relation)
Board Members at Large:
Mary Bragg
Rachel DeBlieck
John Villeneuve
Diane Zaccarine
Again, we are so grateful to all of you! 😊
Every year as a 501c3 we are required to have an annual board mtg
which needs to be posted. Since we no longer have a local newspaper,
this will have to do. Our 2024 Annual Board Mtg is Monday April 15th
at 5:45.
As you know, we provide over 200 weekly backpack bags to the 12
elementary schools in town. This bag includes food for 2 breakfasts,
2 lunches, 3 snacks, 1 juice and 1 milk. As an example of the
volume, we use over 400 cans of chicken noodle soup, 200 mac and
cheese, 800 instant oatmeal packets, 800 juices pouches and 2,400
healthy snacks. In addition to this, we provide each school with a
bag of snacks every month. That being said we need the following for
our backpack program:
Condensed chicken noodle soup
Condensed vegetable soup
Condensed tomato soup
Flavored instant oatmeal
Canned tuna fish
Canned pasta meals
100% Juice boxes
Healthy snacks: peanut butter crackers granola bars, individual
fruit cups and pretzels, cheez-its
Thank you so much, I hope that warm weather is right around the
corner.
Sincerely
Debbie Evans, Founder and
